The Darbari Ensemble
Allyn Miner, sitar
Samir Chatterjee, tabla
Saturday, July 17, 6:00 pm
Steve says, “Allyn and I know each other from way back in the ‘70s in Benaras. She is a marvelous sitarist with a sensitive and lyrical touch. Samir Chatterjee travels the world accompanying all the great Indian artists, and it’s always a delight to perform with him. Together, our trio ensemble has performed many times over the past ten years.”Steeped in the essence of classical Indian tradition, Steve Gorn brings to this music a contemporary world music sensibility. Steve has composed for film, television, dance and theatre, and brought his elegant bansuri sound to a wide range of American pop musicians, including Paul Simon, Richie Havens, Paul Winter, Glen Velez, and many others.
Allyn Miner performs in Indian classical music circles, chamber and world music music series, universities, and private venues in the United States, and regularly returns to India for performances. Pandit Samir Chatterjee is an A-rated artist of the national radio and television of India. He travels widely across the world throughout the year performing in numerous festivals as a soloist or with other outstanding musicians from both Indian and western musical traditions.
