Jazz and opera join hands in Bending Towards the Light, the telling of the Nativity story in a thoroughly fresh way. It is an exciting and moving holiday experience for the entire family, composed and arranged by Anne Phillips. For its fifth consecutive year, the Jazz Nativity is co-produced by Chelsea Opera and the jazz producing company Kindred Spirits. As is the tradition each year, three “star” kings will present the gift of their talent. This year the kings will be Joe Magnarelli on trumpet, Maurice Chestnut as tap king and Houston Person on saxophone. The role of the Shepherd Child will be sung by David Gunwa, a boy soprano from the Newark Boys Chorus School.
There will be one performance on Friday, December 6th at 7:00pm at Christ and St. Stephen’s Church (120 West 69th Street, between Broadway and Columbus) NYC.
