We are heading to Brazil for a series of performances where we will be playing my original compositions as well as rearrangements of the music of composers from Minas Gerais: Milton Nascimento, Toninho Horta, Nelson Angelo, Flávio Venturini and Lô Borges to name a few.

Before we head south come to the Zinc Bar and check out this new project.

Contos available on iTunes http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/contos/id300110263  + CD Baby http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/leonardoemcioglia !

Bassist Leonardo Cioglia may be well on his way to becoming one of the premier contemporary ‘Latin’ jazz bassists.  For Contos, he synthesizes his heritage music with the neo-bop sounds of contemporary New York City, producing a stunningly wondrous series of tracks that defy a sense of convention while also using discernible signposts and icons of his peer group to make refreshingly new music.  Listeners of the current sound of jazz should thoroughly enjoy this recording which borders on extraordinary, and comes highly recommended.

These original compositions by Brazilian reared bassist, composer Leonardo E. M. Cioglia resonate with endearing themes and buoyant flows, abetted by a crack ensemble of modern day jazz heroes.   ….Contos stands as a prominent musical highlight for 2008. Simply stated, it’s music that makes a noticeable difference.
