In their latest CD, Introspection (Jazzheads), guitarist Roni Ben-Hur and bassist Harvie S present a captivating album of classic material presented in rare versions for guitar trio. The album features great, often underplayed pieces by iconic jazz composers: Thelonious Monk (“Introspection”), Billy Strayhorn (“Blood Count”), Joe Henderson (“Serenity”), Tadd Dameron (“Focus”), Kenny Dorham (“Asiatic Raes”), George Shearing (“Conception”) and Neal Hefti (“Repetition”). With Roni having such a distinctive way in Brazilian music, the guitarist also added to the mix a pair of lilting pieces by Baden Powell (“Deixa”) and Ary Barroso (“Pra Machucar Meu Coração”). Rounding out the selection is an unsung number from the Jerome Kern songbook, “Nobody Else But Me.” Introspection brims with subtly insistent swing and insinuating melodies, the rapport between the players intimate and conversational.

“The chemistry found on the album is a unique, uncompromising force to behold.  4 Stars.”   Hilary Brown  Downbeat Magazine

“Introspection is a record to play on repeat, it's warm, glowing allure like candlelight in a room. The players reach into themselves as per the album title of Introspection, but there's also the sense of communion that the best records often have.  Together, all three musicians make this record one to die for.”  Jazz Da Gama

The fluid nature of their rapport, honed together over the years, sharpens this album’s appeal.  WBGO, Jazz 88.3

The strength on this album is the gorgeous and melodic tones delivered by the two leaders.  Doug Ramsey Jazz Weekly
