This Weekend: November 8 – 10

Houston Person Quartet

FRI & SAT • NOV 8 & 9
7 & 9:30 PM

Nothing, it seems, can stop Houston Person – so here’s a weekend to appreciate the reigning King of the Boss Tenor himself. His tone has gotten bigger even as his delivery has mellowed and rounded out. And, of course, you are likely to hear almost anything in terms of repertoire from Houston, pianist Lafayette Harris, bassist Matthew Parrish, and drummer Vince Ector.

Matthew Parrish Quartet

SUN • NOV 10
4 & 6 PM

Having apprenticed with the great organist Shirley Scott and trombonist Al Grey, Matthew Parrish developed into a fine leader, educator and recording artist who has appeared on 65 albums with the likes of Wynton Marsalis, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Paquito D’Rivera and Clark Terry. Now touring with Houston Person, he’ll bring his own quartet here featuring pianist Jim Ridi, drummer Otis Brown III and vocalist Michelle Lordi, whose 2017 album Matthew produced.

Next Weekend: November 15 – 17

David Amram @ 89!

FRI & SAT • NOV 15 & 16
7 & 9:30 PM

One of America’s true musical treasures and a great friend of Jazz Forum Arts, the distinguished composer, musician, conductor, and author David Amram will celebrate his 89th birthday with special guests and good friends. With David’s lifetime of honored achievement in jazz, classical music, film scoring, world music, poetry and so much more, there’s a lot to celebrate and you can join the party.

Featuring Eric Lawrence, Rene Hart, Kevin Twigg, Elliot Peper, Mark Morganelli, Vic Juris (Friday only), Adam Amram (Saturday only) and a Special Surprise Guest!

Rogerio Boccato Quartet

SUN • NOV 17
4 & 6 PM

New York-based Brazilian percussionist Rogerio Boccato is one of the busiest sidemen on the scene, recording and gigging with the likes of Maria Schneider, Kenny Garrett, John Patitucci, and Fred Hersch. His critically-acclaimed 2018 debut album as a leader, No Old Rain, explored great work of Brazil’s post-bossa nova era and he brings the same sympathetic group to Tarrytown – saxophonist Dan Blake, keyboardist Nando Michelin and bass player Jay Anderson.

Following Weekend: November 22 – 24

Fred Hersch Trio featuring Drew Gress & Billy Hart

FRI & SAT • NOV 22 & 23
7 & 9:30 PM

“Across more than 40 albums,” The Irish Examiner recently raved about Fred Hersch, “the New York-based piano player has created a body of work that connects with the likes of Thelonius Monk, Bill Evans and Ornette Coleman, but without ever sounding tired or nostalgic.” Truly one of the greats in contemporary jazz, Hersch brings his lyrical, gentle, and always gorgeous approach to Tarrytown with bassist Drew Gress and drummer Billy Hart.

Noah Haidu Trio featuring Buster Williams & Billy Hart

SUN • NOV 24
4 & 6 PM

Hailed as one of the most confident and impressive of the new pianists — All About Jazz said simply “the cat can play his butt off” – Brooklyn- based Noah Haidu was named a ‘Rising Star’ by both Downbeat Magazine and JazzTimes while Downbeat called his album Infinite Distances one of 2017’s best records. Two top-notch players join Noah on his innovative compositions and improvisations — bassist Buster Williams and drummer Billy Hart.
