In June I made a trip to northern New Jersey to attend the Annual Jazz Record Collectors’ Bash ( in its 41st year). While there were plenty of “jazz” records for sale by long time vendors, there’s even more reason to attend for both the schmoozing among collectors and the three “jazz film” shows. Yes, some are of early “jazz stars” but it’s not exclusive. Friday nights are Dave Weiner’s films, Saturday afternoon Will Friedwald takes over and Saturday night are rare Vitaphone shorts hosted by Ron Hutchinson. SIX hours of films over two days!
