Bob Kindred RIP

Bob Kindred RIP

With great sadness I have to tell you that my former husband, tenor saxophonist Bob Kindred, passed away on Monday.

“Like listening to the history of the tenor saxophone
refracted through a human prism.” – Chuck Berg, Jazz Times

When I heard the news, there were two things from our early days together that I had to listen to:
The beautiful Johnny Mercer/Barry Manalow tune “When October Goes” which I orchestrated for his first album and from “Bending Towards the Light . . . A Jazz Nativity,” our baby, that beautiful "Silent Night” starting the show in the darkness.

“He can make the saxophone whisper and cry.” – Patriot News, Harrisburg, Pa.

“He expresses a kind beauty and depth rarely heard . . . his tone is simply awesome.” – NY Daily News
“He plays with dancing grace.” – John Wilson NY Times

“Clearly an original . . . enormous tone and lightning speed which he uses judiciously. He goes deep into chords to find beautiful sequences of notes and he invests each one with passion." – Jazz Times

“I wish I could play Mozart like Bob Kindred plays jazz”  Clarinetist  Richard Stoltzman

We will all miss his beauty.
